It’s ‘Seal you later’ to some long-standing members of the Ōamaru Public Gardens playground this week, as work began on construction of a new water play area
The project, which will see the removal of the existing square paddling pools, as well as the swing-set and sand digger, will provide an extended water play experience for children and include shaded areas, sand play and picnic and bench seating.
Water features will include pumps, channels and other interactive elements to please kids of all ages.
It’s costed at around $300,000, with finished proposed planting and improved accessibility to the area.
The work is being carried out by local contractor Specialised Services Group Ltd.
The seals at the corner of each of the paddling pools are being removed carefully, and will be found a new home in due course.
As the seasons turn towards winter, children in Ōamaru can look forward to having a splashing time next summer.
