Waitaki District Council Members today took the next step in the development of the Long-Term Plan 2024 – 2034 by approving the investments and projects proposals list to be consulted on at the meeting of full Council.
All councils are facing financial challenges with rising costs and the retention of water services, for now.
The Council is therefore proposing investments and projects that are important to the development of the district and which it is legally required to do, balanced with also keeping rates affordable.
The projects and proposal list account for $418 million dollars of investment over the next nine years, with $188.7 million dollars or 45% of that being water projects for the District’s drinking, waste and stormwater networks and the treatment of drinking and waste water.
Proposed projects include funding the raising of a Local Bill to remove historic legislation affecting the RSA building on Itchen Street, the largest tranche of the Network Waitaki Events Centre funding, allocations over two years for replacing the Kakanui Bridge and the three-yearly dredging of the Ōamaru Harbour channel.
The list will be a part of Council’s Long-Term Plan consultation document, with consultation on the Long-Term Plan taking place in February and March 2025.
The public can view the list of projects on the Waitaki District Council website.
We look forward to the community sharing their opinions on the proposals, and suggesting their own projects and additions, when consultation begins early next year.
